BLENDED LEARNING
Important campaigns often call for full training packages made up of multiple tools and learning pathways from online learning modules, live workshop materials, job aids, and promotional materials. Using multiple methods of learning and distribution of information allows for a wide variety of learning experiences, as well as getting direct and valuable feedback from the learner. Creating these pathways in a modular context where each piece is able to live on its own, also helps in allowing the needs of the group leaders and individuals to choose which part or parts of the modular learning package is right for them at the time.

This particular package shown is part of a very large change management campaign that felt daunting to the industry, with so many levels of staff needing to engage and learn. A more fun and engaging multi-path training with animation was thought to allow a important subject to be approached with a bit of whimsy and thereby making it more interesting for all learners, while still maintaining its integrity. The game itself allowed for multiple outcomes and pathways for the learner to practice skills and make mistakes in an animated world, without the fear of reprisal. This blended learning package included a 25-45 minute online game to practice skill and understand concepts; a facilitators and participants guide; with slide-deck to add a 45-minute live group session to expand on the game (piloted and tested). Also included were an infographic job-aid, campaign materials, and intranet site.

TARGETED ELEARNING
When a message needs to get to over 30K people, sometimes live training and blended learning are not feasible for that kind of scale. This is where targeted eLearning comes into play. The goal is to develop material towards the learner ( vs. the subject ) that allows them to engage with different scenarios and interactions in hopes to draw out a more Socratic method rather than response and repeat. Which is a worthwhile challenge in the digital realm.

This training dealt with the issue of bullying and abuse outside of the legal definition of harassment. With this training, it was important that the gravity of the issue was understood through the components of the training. Want to not just tick off the boxes of training an entire agency county-wide, it was important that the training, though being intranet based, could engage the learner and have them identify and answer the question of what constitutes bullying in the workplace, and what steps they can take to address it.
